The Apollon Audio PET950 Monoblock Amplifier is exceptionally fast, uncommonly clean, and exceedingly musical with articulated, deep, tight, and powerful bass. Exceptional Chassis Design
The chassis is custom machined from solid aluminium. 10mm thick walls and 8mm thick lid and bottom. For improved aesthetics we have designed the chassis in such a way that there are no screws visible when you look at the amplifier as they are only on the bottom plate. The aluminium feet provide isolation and absorption from the ground plane.
The chassis is executed in a very tasteful piano black color (available in pearl white, silver metallic and custom colours). It is spray painted rather than anodised since paint is a softer, more absorbent material. We also offer it in anodised finish if the client wishes.
A very special feature is the backlit glass plate with the engraved Apollon mark and the large heatsink that absorbs the heat from the Purifi 1ET7040SA module and helps with keeping the amplifier module running on normal operating temperature even under high loads.

LAYOUT AND DESIGN
The PET950 amplifier is hand-built with highest precision using only highest quality components. To connect your speakers we use custom built Apollon Pure OFC Copper Binding Posts that are internally connected to the amplifier with Pure OCC 12AWG Copper Output Wire and soldered with silver solder. The input connectors are Neutrik high quality silver plated XLR sockets. The amplifier has a soft start function and it is turned on with a hidden push button switch on the bottom lid.
The amplifier contains one Purifi 1ET7040SA module coupled with our Apollon Audio PET custom input buffer board with the acclaimed Weiss OP2-BP Op Amps onboard. The PET950 monoblock amplifier is powered with one SMPS Hypex power supplyboasting 1200 Watts of power. The standby control module is powered with a low-voltage power supply unit.
Providing low ripple and ultra low noise power to the Weiss OP2-BP Op Amps is possible with our custom designed linear power supply with large Nichicon capacitors and Discrete Voltage Regulators that play a key role for ultra low noise and fast transient responses on our custom input buffer boards for the Purifi 1ET7040SA based amplifier. They are responsible for improved low level listening ability, far superior 3D soundstage and high frequency details. The difference is mostly noticeable at higher volumes, where the clarity remains on higher levels and with ample details and dynamics even at low listening levels.

I have been playing them since morning and they (PET-950) sound very pleasing and even more pleasing as I let them warm.
I started my adventure with Class-D a year ago (when I got Lindemann Power-II 10000 based on NCore NC502MP) and I was amazed how such a small box can control a large speaker.
When I played the PET-950, the first thing I noticed was a significant improvement in control and authority (compared to the NC502MP which is good, but not as good as PET-950).
A few moments later I experienced the PET-950 improve finesse, articulation, detail across all frequency spectrum and it is just more pleasant overall. It is very well and even more pleasing as I let them warm.
Also, the PET-950 are so nicely built. I also appreciate the separation of power supply for OPAMPs and The Power Stage.
The color is indeed so special.
Before having the PET-950, I was not sure this technology can compete with heavy weight Linear Amps (40Kg+), which I also have one in my house (from brand Electrocompania)
The PET-950 can knock even heavy Linear amps, which my previous Class-D could not, so for me, the PET-950 is remarkable.
Before the purchase I was thinking whether to go for the PNC-1200 which is based on older NCore tech that is several years old (and it’s not even NCOREx) or to go for PET which is based on 1ET7040SA and is the last word.
On the face of it, it is difficult to know which would be better, to go for the assembly of an Apollon Premium Amplifier based entirely on Hypex (both power supply and amplifier) or to go for the PET which is a combination of a Hypex power supply with an amplification module which is the latest word from Purify.
Maybe someday, I will have a chance to audition for the PNC-1200.

The sound is fantastic. First and foremost, the sound is stunning. Prior to the Purifi 1ET7040SA mono-blocks I had a 500 watt per channel hypex module class D amp. It sounded darn good, but clearly wasn’t getting all my speakers could put out. These amps sure seem to. I listen to a wide range of music: jazz, alternative rock, classical and opera, electronica and ambient. All of it is so enjoyable through my system now. (And yes, they measure better than the previous set-up as tested with Room EQ Wizard.)
There were a couple of issues leading to a delay beyond the expected production time. Well worth it, in the end. Also, there is a problem with one of the balanced input sockets not working with my well-made XLR cables. I really can’t say the cause for this lies with the amp or the cables, as it usually comes down to a specification mismatch or quality control one way or the other. Impossible to be sure.
Without these problems these are clearly 5-star amps, and I will have no hesitation in buying from Apollon again. I’ve already contacted Tibor at Apollon about a multichannel system I’ll be setting up soon.
